Inclusive Boards Launches NMC Panel Member and Chair Recruitment

NMC is recruiting fitness to practise panel members.

Applications are now open for new members to join NMC independent fitness to practise panels.

We are looking to appoint 85 Panel Members and 55 Panel Chairs to the NMC’s Practice Committees.

Of these, 80 Panel members or Chairs must be lay, meaning you are not and never have been a registered nursing and/or midwifery professional. And 60 must be registrants – that’s nurses, midwives, and nursing associates on the NMC’s register.

Panel members work in groups of three, in which there is always at least one nurse, midwife or nursing associate, and one lay person – someone who’s never been on our register. Panel members collaborate to decide whether a professional is fit to practise and decide what restrictions, if any, to put on their practice to keep people safe.

A legal assessor will also sit with the panel to provide legal advice and support throughout hearings to ensure panels’ decisions reflect our legislation and guidance and are clear and well-reasoned.

For both roles we are looking for applications from a diverse range of individuals to ensure that NMC panels are reflective of the UK population and the professionals NMC regulates. That’s why NMC have partnered with Inclusive Boards.

We particularly encourage nursing associates and registrants from black and minority ethnic backgrounds to apply. These groups are currently underrepresented on NMC Practice Committees and NMC would like to set this right. We welcome applications from registered professionals at any point in their career.

Likewise, it’s equally important that lay panel members reflect the diversity among the UK population. We’re keen to hear from people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Wendy McPherson, Chief Operating Officer at Inclusive Boards said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with the NMC and bringing our expertise and diverse network to this campaign. The NMC are committed to improving the diversity among panel members and Chairs and we’re proud to provide our specialist support.”

If you have the required skills and are motivated by our vision and values, we’d love to hear from you.
